OPIRG McMaster is a student-led and student-funded nonprofit with a mission to empower the McMaster community to take action on social and environmental issues.

Signing up for the general mailing list will ensure that you are notified of new Volunteer Opportunities within OPIRG and any Upcoming Events. Sign-up using the form linked HERE.

You can also skim through the descriptions of various initiatives within OPIRG McMaster and sign up directly if any of them interest you!

  • PSC’s mission is to build awareness, political education, and meaningful avenues for collective student action in support of Palestinian human rights. PSC envisions a just future for Palestinians and oppressed peoples everywhere.

  • CJM’s mission is to motivate action on climate-related issues while building awareness for how climate intersects with other struggles for justice.

    Students combat climate anxiety by holding meetings and events throughout the academic year. Students also advocate for a fossil-fuel-free McMaster by pressuring the university to divest from oil and gas companies and also to decarbonize the university campus.

  • SAS seeks to build independent power, train experienced organizers on university campuses, advocate for a reversal to the OSAP cuts and a properly funded educational system, and cultivate a movement that can fight for an equitable future with accessible education for all.

  • Students who work to support unhoused folks in the Hamilton community through food and materials distribution. HEAL is currently working to establish a donation center at McMaster University to collect gently-used items and distribute them to unhoused individuals in our community.

  • Mac CopWatch is a student-led collective dedicated to resisting police violence, with a focus on the rights of students on McMaster's campus. They aim to build a culture of campus police accountability and community care by documenting police misconduct, observing the scope and surveillance of campus police, providing direct support to victims, connecting to legal supports, and empowering students through education to assert their rights and mobilize against carceral approaches.

  • Mac Students for Bikeshare successfully brought bike share hubs and student passes to the McMaster campus. Now, students continue to pressure the City to maintain funding for the Hamilton Bike Share program and are fighting for better bike transit infrastructure.

  • Students advocating to protect wetlands, farmlands, and conservation zones by pressuring the City of Hamilton and Ontario Government to stop expanding the city boundary into these lands. Goals of the group include sustainable development, affordable housing, and improved public transit.
