Book Club Fund 2021-2022

The aim of this fund is to support virtual book clubs at Mac that are discussing themes of social justice and environmentalism. In particular, preference will be given to book clubs focused on anti-Black/anti-Indigenous racism, or those giving space to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or People of Colour) authors, as a response to the mass protests against racial injustice and police brutality that took place in the summer of 2020. While reading is not enough to fully engage in advocacy, OPIRG realizes that doing so is an important first step—one that is particularly well-suited to our current remote learning paradigm.

As part of this grant, we will provide funding for the purchase of books (either non-fiction or fiction), and also cover any costs associated with mailing the books to book club participants (funds will be reimbursed after you provide receipts or proof of purchase). Whenever possible, we will try to source books from independent book stores to support local businesses.
