Friday is International “Buy Nothing Day” which is almost becoming quaint with movements to buy-nothing new for a year establishing new goalposts for the anti-consumerists among us. Nevertheless, BND does challenge commonly held assumptions in a society geared to grow without considering limits.
The ancient Greek motto “Nothing too much” is loaded with wisdom that advertisers may not want to dwell upon (until they subvert the meaning to serve their own ends…irony, it appears, knows no limits).
Here is footage from a BND action in Hamilton back in 2000. A current bearded OPIRG board member can be seen in this action, and camera work by our own volunteer coordinator Randy.
