All across Hamilton, tenants are facing enormous pressure from gentrification and predatory real estate investment schemes, which are disproportionately affecting poor and racialized sections of the working class. Some have begun responding to this threat with organizing campaigns that embody the anarchist principle of bottom-up self-organization. These struggles have the potential to oppose capitalist interests in one of their most profitable sectors, urbanization, while building territorial working-class power at the neighbourhood level.

This workshop, facilitated by several members of the Hamilton Tenants Solidarity Network, will discuss the strategic rationale behind tenant organizing, from an anarchist perspective, and will also cover some of the practical steps involved in getting organizing campaigns off the ground.
